Fashion legend Antony Price, the visionary UK-based designer responsible for some of the most iconic looks worn by musical icons like Bowie and members of Roxy Music, as well as Queen Camilla, has sadly died at the age of 80.

He was celebrated for his architectural shapes and theatrical styles, including the soft-colored suits that appeared in rock band Duran Duran's landmark music video for "Rio".

"In a tribute, they called him a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the band released a statement online."

This news arrives shortly after he unveiled his most recent collection in London, his first in more than 30 years. Singer Lily Allen walked in a dress evoking the notorious black velvet "revenge dress" made famous by Diana, Princess of Wales.

A Lasting Legacy

A native of Yorkshire, born in 1945, Price moved to London during the sixties to enroll at the esteemed Royal College of Art.

Shortly after his graduation, he began designing men's fashion at the company Stirling Copper and was the creator of the tight, button-detailed trousers that Sir Mick Jagger wore during the iconic group's "Gimme Shelter" tour in 1969.

He launched his own brand in 1979 and presented his inaugural collection a year later. The show featured as its opener creations worn by model Jerry Hall, who was also seen in the wedding dress Price designed for her for her nuptials with Sir Mick Jagger.

Working with Legends

A key creative partner of David Bowie, Price designed the distinctive jacket the singer wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His trademark skill to fuse tailoring for all genders along with his technical proficiency in crafting body-hugging looks cemented his status as a "true original," in the words of the British Fashion Council.

In the 1990s, he began working on outfits for the then-Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla, including several ensembles for her tour of the United States after assuming the title.

Following a profession lasting over fifty years, Price staged what would be his last show in London recently in collaboration with the label 16Arlington.

  • Sculpted Silhouettes: Central to his design philosophy.
  • Dramatic Impact: Influencing music videos and stagewear.
  • Genre-Blending Design: Creating a unique, androgynous style.
  • A Client List from Rock to Royalty: Spanning iconic musicians and members of the royal family.

The fashion world says farewell to a authentic original whose legacy on style and culture remains deeply ingrained.
