Arne Slot Insists He Feels Safe and Has Liverpool's Backing After PSV Eindhoven Humiliation

The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it was understandable for concerns to be asked about his position following another heavy loss versus PSV Eindhoven.

The Reds suffered their 9th defeat in twelve games, marking the club's worst run after being demoted in the 1953-54 season.

They were dominated by the Eredivisie title holders on a punishing night at Anfield.

“I am feeling safe, I'm fine, I have got plenty of backing from the top,” Slot remarked.

“It's important to turn it around and secure a win naturally but if you are in a managerial role and struggling then it's expected that questions are asked.”

He continued, “I'm comfortable with my position. It is not the initial instance I've found myself in a challenging situation but it's necessary that we changed our fortunes.”

Conversations with Liverpool Hierarchy

Upon being questioned to provide details on his discussions with the team officials, the head coach said:

“We talk a lot. They assist to the team and for me and we have those conversations but they don't phone me every single minute each day to say they have faith in me.”

He added, “During our regular discussions I perceive the trust. However I haven’t spoken to them since this game yet so let’s see.”

Familiar Issues and Squad Response

Slot highlighted known weaknesses from his team in their Champions League defeat, specifically missed opportunities and leaking goals.

Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more forthright in his assessment of the team's situation.

“I haven't got the solutions. Honestly, I don’t. I'm telling that to all,” the midfielder stated.

“It’s just not good enough. I don't have to wait to consider it. I'm beyond being angry internally. I’m at the point currently where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”

He added, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the side I follow. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen this club all my life.”

“For many years, I've not seen a Reds side enduring a spell like this with performances so bad.”

He finished, “But we still have that badge on our shirts. And until it is removed, we will always compete.”

“We’re going to try to help the side return to the top, prove again what Liverpool stands for and the reason it's called the greatest side in the world.”

“At this moment, things are bad and it must improve.”
