Viral video clips appeared to show Jones making an obscene gesture at Jets fans, but Jones insists he was actually giving a thumbs-up to Dallas supporters in attendance as his team clinched a 37-22 victory.
“It was regrettable. That was kind of an interaction with Cowboys supporters out in front of us,” Jones explained during a Tuesday interview. “Present was a large group of Dallas supporters—not Jets fans, Cowboys fans. The entire stadium was brimming with enthusiasm for the Dallas team.”
He further clarified that the signal was entirely unintentional, occurring amid the excitement following the team’s final touchdown. “I simply showed the wrong digit,” he noted. “The action was accidentally performed. This is sincere. Should you call it accidental, you can. But it got corrected pretty quick.”
