Manchester United Set to Sign Germany Striker Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich
Manchester United are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific German striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from Bayern Munich.
A Major Acquisition for the WSL Side
The forward, with half a year left on her deal, has been a consistent goal-getter for her club and the national team. Having netted over 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. Her arrival will be seen as a major coup for the WSL side.
Her exit from Bayern has been anticipated after she appeared to be holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s supporters following a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
Reports in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its leading forwards. Per reports, the formalities for the move are now finalised.
Reliable Goal Threat to Boost United's Forward Line
The 28-year-old’s signing should represent a major uplift to the team's forward line. Schüller has been remarkably consistent with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.
- For seven straight seasons, up to and including the last term, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She claimed the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Building Momentum at Carrington
Securing Schüller’s signature comes at a time when United appear to be building positive momentum.
Recent performances include securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the winter break has seen further activity:
- The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since joining in 2023.
Regarding Miyazawa’s new deal, a club official stated: “Miyazawa is now a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”
The new defender, having arrived from a side from the American league, said: “You can sense how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
