New York Jets Head Coach Aaron Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Recover Fully After NYC Incident

New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn revealed that he has been in contact with defensive back Kris Boyd and believes the athlete will recover well after being shot in central New York early Sunday morning.

Glenn shared that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was “in good spirits” during their recent conversation.

“What reassures me, is that his mood is upbeat,” Glenn commented. “His wife and his kid, they are holding up and he is expected to recover fully.”

Glenn was unsure when Boyd would leave the hospital, where he is reported as serious yet stable.

“Not certain at the moment,” the coach said. “But I will say this, hearing him speak, his attitude was encouraging. Once more, that’s what gives me comfort, that he feels like that and his words reflect that optimism.”

Authorities released security footage Monday of a man sought in the shooting of Boyd. The reason behind the incident is currently under review and authorities said it is unknown if Boyd was the intended victim. No one else was hurt according to reports.

The attack took place around 2 a.m. on Sunday morning near the famous arena and the bustling tourist spot. Boyd, twenty-nine, was admitted to a medical center after being shot in the abdomen, police said. The shooter fled the scene.

Glenn mentioned Boyd has been on his mind “constantly” since he heard about the shooting. The coach said that Boyd and his spouse are new parents to a newborn.

“The first thing I thought about, he recently became a father,” Glenn said. “And I’m thinking about his wife, worrying about his newborn and my priority is his well-being. Those thoughts dominated my thinking.
“A certain process is underway, which I won’t get into, but I am pleased that he will recover excellently.”

Boyd did not participate in the present campaign, after joining the team, after going on the season-ending injured reserve list on August 18 with a shoulder injury that required surgery.

He joined the Jets as a new signing in spring and was expected to be a key part of a revamped special teams unit under Glenn and special teams coordinator the special teams coach. But Boyd was injured during preseason drills on August 2 and was carted from the field.

Boyd has remained around the team during the entire campaign while working his way back.

“He’s been a part of what we’re doing,” Glenn said. “I mean, he comes to the games all the time. He is completely involved. To be one of the top special teams players in this league, he’s done a really good job of helping the other guys we have.”

Boyd, from Texas, began his career with Minnesota after getting drafted in the seventh round by the Vikings out of UT in the 2019 draft. He signed with Arizona in last year and then joined Houston’s practice squad after that. Boyd signed a one-year contract valued at $1.6 million with the Jets in March.
