People have come together throughout the country to mark two years since the Hamas-conducted offensive on 7 October 2023, as discussions advanced in Egypt over an end to the conflict in the Gaza Strip.

The assault led to over 1,200 people losing their lives and 251 others taken away to Gaza as prisoners. It was the uniquely most lethal day for Jews since the Holocaust.

Israel reacted by initiating a defensive operation in Gaza which has claimed over 67,000 people, as reported by the region's Hamas-run health ministry. Its numbers are seen as trustworthy by the United Nations and other global organizations.

"Our aggressive adversaries have caused great damage, but they have not broken us," the leader added on Tuesday.

He also promised to "realize all the aims of the war: the release of all the abducted, the destruction of the Hamas regime and the promise that Gaza will never again pose a risk to Israel".

Memorial Ceremonies Across Israel

The government authorities delayed state remembrance events until October 16th - after the completion of the religious holiday season - but gatherings still occurred across the country on Tuesday.

A remembrance service for the loved ones of people killed in the Hamas incident was conducted in the coastal city. Put together by the families themselves, it was aired throughout Israeli TV networks.

Some time earlier, a moment of silence was observed throughout the country.

Peace Meetings in Egypt

Meanwhile, the conflicting parties' negotiating teams gathered in the Egyptian Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh for a second day of mediated discussions to discuss the provisions of the agreement.

A senior delegate familiar with the talks said that an late session of indirect talks started at 19:00 Cairo time.

The official stated the morning session finished without concrete outcomes, amid conflicting views over the recommended Israeli pullout plans from Gaza and over assurances Hamas seeks to ensure Israel does not recommence fighting after the initial stage of the agreement.

He noted that the talks are "challenging and have still not produce any real breakthrough," but mentioned that intermediaries are working hard to narrow the disparities between the both parties.

Key Issues in Negotiations

  • A permanent truce
  • The exchange of the hostages still kept by Hamas for detainees from Gaza
  • The removal of troops from Gaza
  • Plans for relief supplies distribution
  • Post-war management of the region

Citizen Sentiment

In the city's memorial area that day, young Hagar - whose family member survived the assault on the outdoor event, where many attendees were killed and many more were abducted by Hamas militants - told: "Nowhere feels like home any longer and until each abducted person come back none of us will be secure."

"After we see everyone home once more, we can relax again. Then we can begin to recover," she concluded.

Near the leader's official dwelling in the capital, people congregated to express their backing for the families of the captives. Israel states forty-eight stay in confinement in Gaza, 20 of whom are believed to be alive.

Demonstrator a participant remarked: "We must do whatever arrangement necessary for the hostages to be released. But we sincerely need assurances that we will be safe."

Opinion polls now regularly indicate that around 70% of Israeli citizens desire the war to end in as payment for the liberation of the hostages.

Gaza Circumstances

At the location of Nova festival, mourners gathered to honor the dead.

From that location, the boom of aerial bombardments and shelling could be detected just a short distance away in Gaza, where witnesses indicated the heavy Israeli bombardment continued.

In the main city, bombardments were noted in the morning of that day in the western Tal al-Hawa, area and zone districts and in the east side neighbourhood of that sector, as well the camp to the north-west.

"As the night arrives, the dread comes with it," relocated Gaza City resident a local woman, whose young son was killed by an Israeli bombing last year, described.

"My family are fearful of the bombings. During nighttime we are resting together, clinging, notably my smallest child who places his head on me the entire evening."

"Continuously we check the news to see developments. And I'm concerned that this ceasefire will not be completed and that the conflict will return to us."

Medical Crisis

Al-Shifa hospital in Gaza City reported it had taken in the bodies of half dozen people by the afternoon, including a trio who died in an Israeli strike in the south part area.

Nasser hospital in the south region of that area said two more fatalities had been delivered. One of them was killed by Israeli soldiers while seeking help to the south region, health workers reported.

The region's health ministry said a significant number of the {territ
