The Showrunner Shares He Has an Idea of How His Sci-Fi Series Will End... Currently.

Vince Gilligan could not have predicted that the Apple TV+ show would emerge as a breakout success. “I am so grateful to the audience,” Gilligan says. “I did not foresee the show being as widely discussed as it is, and it makes me overjoyed.”

Now that Season 1 of the acclaimed sci-fi show reaching its finale—and a second season already in development—the creative team reflected on the fan response and whether it will influence the future direction of Pluribus.

Regarding the Tremendous Viewer Reception

It would be easy to get distracted by the constant speculation and fan theories surrounding Pluribus. He is making a conscious effort to steer clear of all that.

“It's like being constantly eating your favorite dessert and being tickled to death,” he describes. “It's amazing, but I get wind of it through word of mouth, and that's on purpose. Not once have I Googled myself, nor do I ever want to. It's quite the opposite. It's a rabbit hole I know I would fall into and then I'd be living in squalor from the hardware store and I'd rarely emerge from my living room.”

Despite his concerted efforts, there’s no escaping the overwhelmingly positive response to the series. The best he and his team can do is to accept it graciously and try not to let it influence the direction of the show.

“We make no attempt to tailor anything,” says co-executive producer Alison Tatlock. “The narrative we craft is not influenced by audience chatter.”

“We prefer to keep our noses to the grindstone,” Gilligan concludes.

The Big Question: Has the creator See the Finale of Pluribus?

So if Gilligan and his team are not listening by audience theories, does it imply they already know how Pluribus will finally conclude? In short yes… in a way.

“We have some compelling concepts about where the show might end up,” Gilligan reveals. “however, we remain prepared to throw out a decent plan for a better idea. That philosophy has guided us in well on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We scrap ideas when we get a better idea and I suspect we'll be doing that.”

Then again, if plans fall through, director and writer Gordon Smith has a rather amusing idea to serve as a last resort.

“My recurring proposal is that everything takes place within a snow globe, and that we'll reveal the snow globe and we're in there,” he says humorously, “though the idea hasn't gained traction.”

Alternatively, why not reference the legendary finales?

“I'd love for Carol to wake up in bed with Bob Newhart there,” Gilligan says with a smile.

Pluribus can be watched on the streaming service.
